Festivals bring people together to celebrate music, creativity, and connection. At Festivawl, we believe this joy should never come at the expense of the planet. This report reflects our efforts to track, measure, and offset our environmental impact for 2024. But we didn’t stop there. We went above and beyond by offsetting almost double our carbon footprint for the year. Because why settle for “just enough” when you can do more?
Our Environmental Footprint in 2024
From January 1st to December 31st, 2024, we carefully evaluated every part of our operations, from pre-launch development to app usage. Here is a detailed breakdown:
Before the Launch (January to March 5th, 2024)
Before Festivawl officially hit app stores, our two-person team (yes, just the two of us) worked hard to design, develop, and test the app. These activities contributed to:
- Device Energy Usage for Development and Design: Approximately 17 kg CO₂.
- Cloud Services for Testing: Around 50 kg CO₂ for hosting pre-launch versions on servers.
- Meetings and Collaboration: Virtual meetings (or “brainstorming marathons”) added about 10 kg CO₂.
The total pre-launch emissions were 77 kg CO₂. Not bad for two people and a lot of coffee.
After the Launch (March 6th to December 31st, 2024)
Once Festivawl launched, we became a trusted festival companion for thousands of users. Here is how our operations contributed to our footprint:
- Server and Database Operations: 700 kg CO₂.
- App Downloads: With 5,334 downloads, this generated 320 kg CO₂.
- User Sessions: Our 40,000 sessions added 80 kg CO₂.
- Push Notifications: Sending 909 notifications contributed 0.03 kg CO₂.
- App Updates: Delivering 32,000 updates generated 1,920 kg CO₂.
The total post-launch emissions were 3,020 kg CO₂.
Our Total Carbon Footprint
By combining pre-launch and post-launch operations, Festivawl’s total carbon footprint for 2024 was 3,097 kg CO₂. This is the cost of making festivals a bit easier (and a lot more fun) for music lovers worldwide.
Taking Responsibility: Offsetting 2x Our Emissions
To address our emissions, we partnered with Carbify, a company that makes carbon removal both innovative and verifiable. Here’s what they do:
- Trees Are Planted: These aren’t just any trees. They grow in the Amazon rainforest, absorbing CO₂ as they flourish and helping restore vital ecosystems.
- Blockchain Transparency: For the nerds (you know who you are), Carbify uses blockchain technology to track every kilogram of CO₂ removed. It’s fully traceable and completely legit. If you want to dive deeper into how it works, check out their Greenpaper.
- Certificates Issued: Every carbon offset is accompanied by a certified Carbon Reduction Certificate, so you know the job is done right.
For 2024, we offset 6,200 kg CO₂, nearly double our emissions for the year. To put this into perspective, offsetting this amount of CO₂ is equivalent to:
- Driving a gasoline-powered car for approximately 13,900 miles (22,370 kilometers).
- Taking about 10 round-trip flights between New York and London.
- Consuming electricity for an average U.S. household for about six months.

Why We Offset More Than We Emit
